Maple Flakes vs Maple Sugar

Maple sugar is known for many things, including its granular texture. It has a similar consistency to white sugar and many people use it for similar applications. Maple sugar is commonly found in a lot of dry mixes for that reason.

Pure maple flakes, on the other hand, are often used for garnishing foods. They're also very quick to dissolve, especially in hot beverages. They have more of a crunchy texture that is less consistently sweet but rather offers delightful bursts of flavor.

How to Use Maple Flakes

Maple flakes have endless versatility, wherever crunchy texture and maple flavor could enhance a product. For example, these sweet morsels are often used to garnish salads, cheeses, sweet potatoes, poultry, or a variety of desserts.

For those who are in the mood for a sweet indulgence, maple flakes can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone treat.

Applications:

These crunchy little morsels simultaneously add sweetness and texture when used to garnish salads, cheeses, poultry, sweet potatoes, or desserts. Like maple sugar, maple flakes also work as a low-calorie sweetener in your favorite recipes. The versatility is endless.

Applications for Maple Flakes

While pure maple flakes are known for their seemingly unending versatility, there are a few key applications in particular that you'll definitely want to be aware of.

Some include:

Baked Goods & Pastries

Maple flakes can be the perfect ingredient for experimenting with the texture, color, and even the overall flavor of any baked goods or sweet pastries that you're making. They react with other proteins in interesting ways to create entirely new flavor profiles.
